LIFE opens temporary second hand shop in Antwerp

In Antwerp, LIFE, in collaboration with Oxfam, Kringwinkel and Britt Van Marsenille, has opened a temporary second-hand shop selling sustainable clothing. On the Kammenstraat 18-22, the developer has made a 750 m2 shop front available. The social project was initiated by VRT presenter Britt Van Marsenille and Toon Haverals, managing partner of LIFE.

With this initiative, Oxfam continues its policy of using temporary shops to take the initiative in the fight against poverty. Previously, a pop-up was opened in the Antwerp district of Seefhoek and in Anderlecht. Several other locations are under consideration.

The property on which the shop is located is part of the estate that LIFE took over from the Van Noten family last summer. The adjoining properties are located on Steenhouwersvest, Kammenstraat and Vrijdagmarkt – for decades these served as a base for ‘t Meuleken: the family business active in ready-to-wear, tailor-made suits and uniforms. The 7000m2 site will be redeveloped with catering, retail, housing and co-working or co-living.
